Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is a brilliant concept that has gone wrong. A clear exhibit of lack of maturity and letting go of a fantastic opportunity to take a contemporary look at relationships and marriage as an institution. Overall KANK is a great film from the angle of writing, performance and execution, however substance and style are something that is not at all in line. Shah Rukh Khan's acting in places actually make you grin, giving you a break from the tear strained four hour-long movie. |
There is no headway made. Marketed as a bold product from the successful filmmaker, Karan Johar has got it all wrong. It is great to have all the big names of Bollywood in one script, but how to take them ahead and make sense of their roles is something that is not taken care of. The entire plot should have been taken a bit seriously. The story is about two couples who see their respective marriages falling apart. There is Dev (Shahrukh) an injured football player who is simply shown as a frustrated man getting shadowed under his wife's booming career Rhea (Preity). On the other side there is the stylish and party guy Rishi (Abhishek) running a PR agency and his wife Maya (Rani Mukherjee) who just don't seem to hit the common ground. |

Relationships turn bitter and thus two of the four get attracted Dev and Maya. Suddenly the everyday trivial fights become irreversible and all the four fall apart with their love lives. Even though both Dev and Maya decide to end their relationship, fidelity becomes the central issue. Showing the roots of the actual Indian society, erring partners can't be forgiven easily and four of them go their individual ways. The movie has a glimpse of Silsila, giving a view of the changing times. The music of the movie is far better than the flow of the story. Even the rich star cast does not add value to the narration. As far as Big B is concerned, he couldn't have performed on a worse character. It just doesn't go with his age or persona
So if you are heading for the movie hoping to enjoy the nice Karan Johar style of glamour world, you are going to be disappointed. After all we all know marriages don't fall apart on six-month relationships
