Undertrail Undertrial is a film that tries to provide a slice of life. Based on a true story, the film tries to analyse the trauma that a person falsely accused of raping his three daughters can undergo. It is film that tries to answer the difference between an accused and a convict. It is aimed to provoke thought about the human psychology of taking things at the face value without going to the root of the crime. But does the film really acts as an eye-opener? Well lets see. The film takes off with Rajpal Yadav playing the character of Sagar Hussian, an undertrail in central jail, accused of raping his three daughters for the last 8 years. As he is led to the jail he is introduced with kicks and blows, and a spate of vengeance from his inmates in the jail. Even after he is shifted to the safe custody, things doesn't change as he is abused and looked down upon as everyone considers him to be the greatest devil on earth that should be killed even though he is just an accused. The only person who bestows generosity on him is Nadir Sahab, a role played by Mukesh Tiwari. Slowly and steady as the film progresses one finds that Sagar is innocent and the main culprit behind it is his wife Salma (played by new comer Monica Castelino). Salma, an over-ambitious small town girl marries twice, one of them being Sagar Hussian. But although Sagar comes to know about it, he doesn't make it an issue, rather he accepts the daughter from her first marriage. But things goes wrong when he finds that his daughters are going in the wrong path, thanks to their mother Salma who inspires them to dance in bars and sleep with other man all for the sake of her dollar dreams. And when finally Sagar decides to take a stand, he lands up in jail.
Undertrail The film no doubt has a bold plot and thus it is quite daring on the part of the director to make a film on such a topic. But just taking up a bold story is not enough; one has to treat it with the same amount of dexterity and clarity. Here is where the film disappoints. The film spends too much time in describing the plights of the prisoners, the cops on guard etc through sequences and dialogues that is almost redundant to the script. The acting of the inmates in jail is exaggerated, and the dialogues are loud and sermonical. The film stretches unnecessarily with songs and item number, which could have been easily done away with. It is only after the intermission that the film picks up with the introduction of Ravi Visnoi (Kader Khan) as the lawyer of Sagar Hussian (Rajpal Yadav). And as Kader Khan and Prem Chopra(the prosecution lawyer) fights it out in the court room, things starts unfolding. But then, even this sequence takes on the head of the audience as it drags too much with too many flash backs. And if that wasn't enough, there is a remark on the media at the end hinting that even media runs after sensationalism and gossip.

Well speaking of performances, Rajpal Yadav once again proves how good a method actor he is, although most of the time he does nothing except peeping through his fine locks of hair while Kader khan and Prem Chopra are good. Mukesh tiwari does well in his small role but the surprise package is Monica Castelino, who has the maximum dialogue in the film. She carries on the character well but is too dramatic and loud. In fine, it is a film that could have been heart rendering had it been told in a proper way. But nevertheless, if you are some one who loves to see slice of life stories and appreciates an honest attempt of the directors then go and watch the film but just beware of the excessive melodrama.
