Varun Bahl is greeted with huge applause
New Delhi: A group of four well-known designers showcased their collection on Bridal Asia's concluding day on Sunday evening. Varun Bahl, Bhairavi Jaikishan, Pallvai Jaikishan and the Pakistan's fashion-house 'Karma' presented their bridal and trousseau collection in the Terrace Lawns of The Grand Hotel in the city. Every designer brought out individual themes and distinct collection for the show. Varun Bahl, a graduate from NIFT-Delhi who launched his label at White- a global fashion show- held in Italy in 2001, opened up the array of evening's fashion shows. He chose the currently-loved title song from the movie "Saawariyan" to be played in the background while models carried his collections on the ramp.

"The song is new and is one of my favourites. It went really well with the showcase of the collection," he said. In all the clothes designed by Varun Bahl, he chose gold as his base colour. His choice of colours are different from the traditional bridal colours. "Slowly, these colours are being accepted in our society. My collection was basically in light colour of ivory white. I am moving away from the tradition and it is all about changing people's thoughts," Varun added while speaking to Headlines India.

Like day one, the second day also saw many socialites privileging their favourite designers by walking in their collection. Mona Anand and Shabnam Singhal walked in Bhairavi's designer sarees. Bhairavi, whose focus was on resham, crystal and sequin embroidery, displayed vibrant colours in her collection. Sheetal Ansal, Sangeeta Mehra, Kalyani Chawla with her daughter and Mandira Bedi walked in Pallavi Jaikishan's collection. Mandira gave a glimpse of her dance moves while showcasing a heavy saree designed by Pallavi.

While speaking to Headlines India, Mandira said, "People tend to think I have been wearing a lot of sarees and so, I have been away from sarees for a while. Today, it feels good to be back. I haven't worn such a heavy saree for a really long time. Eight year ago, when I got married, the only bridal colours were pink, orange or burgundy. Now, there is a huge range of bridal colours - lots of gold and white. White was considered taboo in past years. Now the designers have evolved and moved away from the norms."

Although the Bridal Asia- 2007 fashion shows might have concluded, one can still experience the bridal couture in the coming days. One can have another look at the various collections showcased at Bridal Asia-2007, along with other ranges of bridal wear at Bridal Asia- 2007 exhibition, which is scheduled to be held at Hotel Ashok, New Delhi, from October 16-18, 2007.
