A celebration of light,color and the victory of virtue over vice, Diwali symbolizes the goodness in every human being. According to the mythology it was the day of homecoming for Lord Rama after the destruction of Ravana in a fierce battle. For whichever reason maybe diwali is celebrated all over India as an epitome of enlightenment.

It is also believed that it was the day when Goddess Laxmi was saved from an evil king. Diwali also marks the beginning of a new year with the hope of prosperity and happiness. Men and women put up their best clothes and jewelries and step out of home to wish everyone they meet on the way. Exchange of gifts and sweets are common customs.

Diyas, candles and lamps are lighted all over and children accompanied by their parents and relatives light crackers and sparklers. The evening ends with a grand dinner and with a wish for the well being of all near and dear ones, as the an earnest wait for the next diwali begins.
