Your association with Osian's Cinefan has been quite long. How has been
your experience in the festival so far? |
| Nagesh: It has been a great experience. I had earlier been to Osian's as a
director with my films “Rockford”, “Three Walls” and “Dor” but this year I
have come as a judge and will be judging other films in the First Features
Competition category. |
How different are you feeling as a jury member in the First Features
Competition category? |
| Nagesh: Well, I am not fond of being in the jury. In a jury, you are forced
to choose a winner which I am not in favour of. Film making has no winners
and no losers and directors have every right to make a film with their point
of view. But yes, there is one thing I am happy about. And that is you get
to watch all the films for free and can also wander wherever you want. |
Do you think such Film Festivals have contributed to film culture,
especially Film making? |
| Nagesh: Yes definitely. It gives a good platform to starters. |
Any film you are looking forward to in this festival? |
| Nagesh: There is no specific film. But I have been able to watch nine movies so far. |
What is your kind of cinema? |
| Nagesh: It's something that entertains the audience while telling a good story. |
Tell us about your upcomimg film Aashayein? |
| Nagesh: Aashayein talks about how living every moment of the life is
important. And those who always wait for the right moment end up getting no
chance at all. Here, John plays a gambler who looses everything and then
finds the real meaning of life. |
Why have you titled it Aashayein, why not Aasha? |
| Nagesh: Well, Aasha is a common word and Aashayein sounds uncommon. As simple as that. |
How different it was, directing a mainstream actor? |
| Nagesh: It was no different, an actor is an actor. It does not matter
whether he is new or experienced, mainstream actor or not. |
Both your movies Iqbal and Dor had social message, do you like making such movies? |
| Nagesh: It's not a conscious effort. I make movies to entertain the
audience. I want to tell a good story if it grabs you. Also, I keep trying
to do something that I haven't done before. |
How much time do you take to write a script? |
| Nagesh: I don't give myself more than 30days to write a script. If I can't
finish it in 30 days I just leave it. I wrote the script for Iqbal in six
days, Hyderabad Blues in seven and Dor in 8-9 days. |
What is so peculiar about your films? |
| Nagesh: My each film is different from my previous film. Also, I like happy
endings in my films as they are far more appealing than negative ones. |
Any message for our viewers? |
| Nagesh: I would want them to go and watch the movie first and then judge it.
I ask them not to listen to any filmmaker, film critic, reporter or any
other related person for the jugdement. See the film and judge it yourself.
