Soha Ali Khan
Soha Ali Khan New Delhi: Born in the family of the Nawab of Pataudi, Soha Ali Khan has always enjoyed the celebrity status of her family. She has Sharmila Tagore, a prolific actor of the yesteryears as her mother and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, the current nawab and the former captain of the Indian cricket team as her father. Moreover, her brother Saif Ali Khan is also a very successful national award winning actor. Soha jumped into the acting bandwagon in 2004 with a Bengali film, 'Iti Srikanto'. After that she went on to act in a number of films in both Hindi and Bengali and now she is all set to do some films in English. Since childhood she has been very close to Aman Ali Khan and Ayan Ali Khan, the contemporary the Sarod maestros. On February 2, 2007, She was in the capital on the occasion of the music release of the Bangash brothers' new album, 'Mystic Dunes'. Headlinesindia had the opportunity to meet the actor. Here are the excerpts:
Soha Ali Khan   What kind of music do you like?
Soha Ali Khan: I listen to everything, rock, Jazz, fusion, classical music and also contemporary Hindi songs. So, I respect all sorts of music. I turn up to anything that touches my heart. But, I can't sing, so, this is something that is disappointing for my parents and me.
Soha Ali Khan   What do you have to say about 'Mystic Dunes'?
Soha Ali Khan: Well, I like the way they have composed the music and also the music video, it borrows elements from the world and has been shot not only in India but also in the deserts of Sahara and Arizona. And, above all there is a certain element of glamour that would appeal to the viewers. Overall, its packaging is very entertaining.
Soha Ali Khan   Do you think the younger generation listens to classical music as much as the older one used to?
Soha Ali Khan: Now-a-days world music has come up as a different genre. We are exposed to the music of the different region of the world, whether it is pop, classical or fusion. And, I think efforts like 'Mystic Dunes' are the best way to make classical music accessible to the younger generation who otherwise fails to recognize it more often.
Soha Ali Khan   You have started with Bengali films, then you did Hindi films and now you have certain English films lined up. So, do you feel that there is any difference as such in acting for films in different languages?
Soha Ali Khan: Well, I give more importance to the scripts and the directors with whom I do a film. If the script is good, it does not really matter what language is it. I just want to do some meaningful films.
Soha Ali Khan  'Rang de basanti' is out of the oscar race, it must be disappointing?
Soha Ali Khan: Obviously, I am disappointed as I was a part of the film.
Soha Ali Khan   But 'Water' is still in the race?
Soha Ali Khan: Water is not an Indian entry, it's a Canadian entry but since it is based on an Indian theme, so I am happy for it.
Soha Ali Khan   Did you ever feel to compose music for bollywood films?
Soha Ali Khan: (Laughs) We haven't been approached by anyone yet. If someday we get a chance, we will surely do that.
Soha Ali Khan   What are your future projects?
Soha Ali Khan: For the last few months, I have been busy with Sudhir Misra's 'Khoya Khoya Chand'. I have two more films lined up namely 'Meridian' and 'Postcard'. I am also doing a film with Aparna Sen but its shooting schedule is not finalized as yet.
