Aamir, a movie that challenges the proverb, “you are the master of your destiny”, to tell you that destiny is a matter of chance and not a matter of choice. This 90 minute movie is a treat for the quality conscious and discerning audience. The plot is about an England returned doctor (Rajeev Khandelwal) who on putting his foot in Mumbai is caught in a web. He has to follow the dictates of the kidnappers and is not sure how to get out of the situation. The debutante director, Rajkumar Gupta portrays the city which never sleeps in an entirely new fashion.
The cinematography is outstanding, mostly done by hidden cameras. Alphonse Roy captures Mumbai streets with a distinct ease. The film will make you see dark and dirty areas of Mumbai- lanes, bylanes, cheap restaurants, lodges, pimps and over crowded markets. Editing by Aarti Bajaj is a phenomenon in its own right. In fact, this low budget enterprise is worth more.

.jpg) The movie has everything minus a typical love saga with no heroine, no songs, not even stunning locations. The hero, throughout the movie is seen in a singular black suit. The low budget but big on acclaim movie essays the secular spirit of the nation. The climax is pragmatic and is sure to draw the psyche of the audience. Doctor Aamir Ali happens to be a Muslim who lands in India and is surprised not to find anyone from his family waiting for him at the airport. He is taken aback when two unknown men fling a mobile phone into his hands on which he is informed that his family has been kidnapped and he would be required to carry out certain tasks in the honour of his religion before he meets his family. With this begins the journey of the doctor who looks at the streets with a desperate emotion of tracing his family.

But certain things remain unanswered, as to why is he the chosen one? As the plot moves, Aamir's dilemma becomes un-involving. Besides, TV star Rajeev Khandelwal makes a statement that he is a class one actor and is here to stay on the Silver screen too. The sheer helplessness of a character trapped in a mess has been well portrayed by the actor, with a face that is sensitive and emotive. He has acted in a very subtle manner. He has the screen presence and versatility to play a range of roles. Unlike the soap opera horses, he is natural and refreshing. The movie is a high concept venture and a must watch for people who visit a theatre for something more than entertainment.
