Apne, a movie based on a family drama with lots of action carried the burden of dumping the criticism earned by 'Dillagi'. The last time Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol were together was in Dillagi and the movie bombed at the Box Office. Apne is the movie involving the family of a former silver medalist in Boxing played by Dharmendra. The movie is filled with emotional scenes and director Anil Sharma proved that he can make a good emotional entetainer. The movie has all the ingredients of a bollywood movie with some good action (one can expect action in a Deol movie). The movie is entertaining and based on a good story. Although the movie runs at a slow pace hence the length of the movie is more than it should have been. The movie gets monotonous in the first half but that is been compensated in the second when the movie runs full throttle. No need to mention about the acting skills of the Deols as all the actors in the movie have perfomed upto their best with Dharmendra leading the way. Dharmendra has shown his expertise in the emotional scenes in the movie. The actor looked perfect in the role of veteran boxer and coach. The positive point is that the movie never goes into those out of the world action scenes of Sunny Deol. The action in the movie is more realistic, which brings excitement to the movie.

The story of Apne runs with Dharmendra who is banned for doping urges his elder son Angad (Sunny Deol) to become a world champion boxer but Angad leaves Boxing after becoming a national champion and ventures in business to earn money. A rift of emotions comes in between Angad and his father. Bobby who is younger son leaves his singing career and pursues his father's dreams and goes on to achieve success in Boxing but he falters at the final step of his goal. That's where Sunny Deol comes into picture and puts on the gloves again. He then goes on to win the tag of world champion for his father. The music of the movie is a typical Himesh Reshammiya with two songs sung by the music director himself. The music is good and makes the movie an attractive package. But there are some points where the movie looks dull at many points. The comedy scenes in the movie are on based on the old and popular jokes and fails to make the audiences laugh.

Shilpa Shetty who is playing as the wife of Sunny Deol was impressive in a short role. Shilpa Shetty after the success of Metro has again given a mature performance in the movie. Katrina looked elegant as ever but she will have to play much more lead roles instead of side role to show her acting prowess. There were many areas where the movie could have been made better. The dialogs at many points looks straight and dull. The dialog writer should have put some more emphasis to get the dialogs more punchy and attractive. However Sunny Deol is looking too old for the role of a World Boxing Champion, which he is playing. Although the King of Action has delivered well despite his age and showed that why he has such a big fan following. Director Anil Sharma has also showed that he can make an emotional filled movie. Although he has been unable to create the magic of Gadar but after watching it can be said that it is a good emotional movie with a tinge of action. In the midst of the movies made on the new hip-hop culture of India , Apne is little bit traditional and depicts family Drama. So all those who were waiting for a good family drama can watch this entertainer.
