Sajid Khan has lived up to his reputation of being one of the foremost comedians in the country other than stage artists Sunil Pal and company. So it was but natural that with Sajid's debut in the director's chair, 'Heyy Babyy' would have the audiences rolling with laughter with his intelligent humour. However, the movie is not an all out comedy as it has many emotional scenes. Sajid has kept in mind the interests of all sections of audiences and has sprinkled some 'hot stuff' in some of the scenes to attract younger viewers. As a director Sajid Khan has succeeded in blending comedy and drama without blowing either of the aspects out of proportion. |

The story is all about how a baby changes the life of three Casanovas. The film is shot in picturesque Australia which seems to have emerged as one of the more preferred location for the bollywood directors. The movie follows a straight story-line. Three friends Arush (Akshay Kumar), Tanmay (Ritesh Deshmukh) and Ali (Fardeen Khan) live together in Sydney and they live it up having the best time of their lives. The three have jobs just right for their kind of lifestyle – Arush works as a bartender in a night club, Tanmay is an event organiser with a specialisation in organising parties for kids and young moms. Ali perhaps has the most alluring job of all, he is a gambler with his biggest strength being his weakness for women. All of them rue the fact that there are so many women and so little time. This common feeling bind the three together.
One day the course of life takes a change. The three find a baby left at their doorstep. What follows is that the three proceed to find out which of them is the father of the child – appropriately called 'Angel'. They begin to call up each other's long line of girlfriends in an effort to find out the mother of the child but their efforts prove fruitless. In the meantime the way each of them strive to care for the child is enough to keep the audience in splits of laughter. In due course of time 'Angel' works her magic on three Casanovas changing them all into loving and caring fathers. The movie has a twist in the tail when Esha (Vidya Balan), who is earlier duped by one of our flirtatious heroes, enters their lives bent on revenge.

There was some speculation about 'Hey Babyy being a hindi remake of a Hollywood blockbuster 'Three men and a Baby' but after watching both the movies, the similarity between the two is only superficial. 'Heyy Babyy' is a run-of-the-mill Bollyood production with a mix of comedy and melodrama. What could have been an even better laughter riot was perhaps sobered down a little with the inclusion of emotional scenes. However, the director could have done better with the transition between the serious and lighter scenes. The music is directed by celebrated trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy who would be riding high after the musical success of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. Sonu Nigam, Shreya Ghosal and Shaan are among the singers who have lent their voices to the songs in the movie and the result is for all to see. The music of 'Heyy Babyy' is topping the charts everywhere. 'Dholna has a touch of the early years with traditional tabla beats and the soft music makes it a treat for the year. Another song making headlines is the title song which has some excellent groovy music and it bound to become one of the favourite at DJ's and in discotheques.
