Abbas Tyrewala explores the Romcom genre further in his first film, Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. His debut film as director has fetched him the right kind of fame, wealth and recognition. Thanks to the high profile and dedicated involvement of producer Aamir Khan, whose nephew Imraan Khan makes his debut in this film as an actor.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is one movie all set to cash in on the campus opening buzz. It is a college romance between Jai Rathore aka Rats (Imraan) and Aditi aka Meow(Genelia). While Aditi plays a rich, aggressive, tomboyish but a sweet girl, Jai Singh Rathore is a soft spoken middle class Rajput boy.

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na is a tale of six friends Jai, Aditi, Jiggy, Shaleen, Bombs and Rotlu. Jai and Aditi are best friends, but definitely not in love. They are so close that their friends and family feel that they are the best match for each other. But the only people, who are not thinking about it are Jai and Aditi. They can not even stand the proposal of marrying each other and decide to find a suitable match for the other one.

And, from here begins their journey of love. They find Meghna (Manjari) for Jai while dramatically Aditi gets engaged to Sushant (Ayas Khan). But, ultimately the movie follows the tested and tried pattern of Bollywood and it is a happy ending after all.

On the performance front, Imraan is adorable but needs to fine tune his acting skills if he wants to match his uncle, Mr Perfectionist in the long run. Genelia looks extremely fresh and is natural in her acting. The chemistry between the two looks flawless. The four friends are likeable and add liveliness to every scene they share. Manjari Fadnis looks pretty and plays her part perfectly. Ratna Pathak Shah as Jai's mom and Naseeruddin Shah as Jai's dead father who speaks from photo frame has acted brilliantly. Paresh Rawal is good but doesn't have much to do in the film. Prateik Babbar, son of veteran actress Smita Patil and actor Raj Babbar is good in his tiny role. Arbaaz and Sohail too tickle your funny bones with their cameos as cowboys.

With his first film as a full time director, Abbas Tyrewala promises much more than this movie throws at the audience. The cinematography simply stands out and a treat even to the veteran viewers. A R Rahman is as usual fantastic and lifts up the mood of the film with his brilliant music. The very first song screened in the movie “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” is wonderful to hear. The other song “Pappu Cant Dance” has become the most popular song of the movie. “Nazrein Milana” is also pleasant to hear The audience is praising all the four songs of the movie.

Though there is nothing new in the film but I had a smile on throughout the movie. And, I promise, as a professional film critic that with an essentially ordinary storyline, this romantic comedy is up there for the youths but the older ones can also live their college-days at a different time.
