Jannat – In search of HeavenThe timings may be right for the Bhatt camp to cash in on the cricket fever that has gripped the nation with the on-going DLF-IPL series. Coming out of the prolific Bhatt camp, 'Jannat – In search of heaven' hinges on to match fixing as the backdrop theme to display a love story. The lone hindi release for the already parched month of May, saw the theaters open up with an above average sell-out.

Set in the backdrop of Match fixing, the movie has Arjun Dikshit(Emraan Hasmi) who is a compulsive lier and is obsessed with making quick buck. From being a cards player to betting on matches, Emraan turns from a bookie to an eventual match fixer, to satitate his desire for money and in the way splurge his lady love with all the luxury in the world. Falling in Love with Zoya(Sonal Chauhan), Emraan notices her staring at a diamond ring at a mall and wants her to give the world. And he does that, only to be later disapproved by his lady love who does not want to be a party to his misadventures. Caught in a struggle of a sorts, he finally moves to South Africa, and truely, the movie only picks up from there, if at all it does...!
Jannat – In search of Heaven ReviewNow, Post interval Arjun is lured by the forbidden apple of limitless money by the match fixing mafia head Abu, played by Javed Sheikh, who's unlawful activities extended to funding of the terrorists, and then begins the whole mess of Emraan wanting and leaving the wealth at the same time. It touches upon the edges of former India captain who was caught in match fixing, Pakistan's coach's mysterious death, all manupulatively handeled to support the developments of the plot. Then there is a climax that hold to an extent, but not quite gripping enough. So over all if we rate the entire movie we will not score it above 1.5 stars..and trust me we are very generous.

Jannat – In search of Heaven ReviewTalking of performances of the star casts, Emraan Haashmi has grown from his debut movie Footpath and looks quite appreciable in this latest movie. On the other hand the newcomer Sonal Chauhan looks preety and passable enough, as she hasn't really had the opportunity to act. The debutant director Kunal Deshmukh did an OK job for his first outing and the debutant writer Vishesh Bhatt also looks promising. The music, like always, is to look out for, wherein Pritam's song like Zara sa and Jannat Jaha are already hit with the audiences. Having said that we say that the narration, the story line, loose plot plays the spoil sport, enough for it to leave a bad taste.

Jannat – In search of Heaven ReviewThe cinematography that captures the exotic locales of Cape Town is appeciable, but the screenplay still needs to be worked upon.

It has been quite some time now that the Box -office has really ringed a bell, with all the 2008 releases either getting lukewarm response or below that. And people may contend that 'Race' and 'Shaurya' were the not-to-be-missed movies, we argue that they do not fill the void of a blockbuster hit. But lots to look forward to, as the Hindi release for the next friday include Dhoom Dhadaka, Don Muthuswami and the animated Ghtotkack...not sure if those can produce a hit either.
