The much hype and hoopla surrounding the newest Yash Raj flick ' Jhoom Barabar Jhoom' finally broke with the release of the film on 15th June. There were so many theories doing their rounds in the air about the film. It's star cast, music (already topping the chart) and above all the promos showing ‘Big B’, pushed the viewers expectation from it. The hype and the thumping music effect was so much so that people started speculating a block-buster, and why not Yash Raj films which has a track record of giving hits in the past as well. After all the same banner produced DDLJ in 1995 is still running and recently completed it's 6000 shows in a Mumbai theater on the trot. Finally the dust settled only to see it crashing down to earth.

The film starts with a bang, Big B in an opening song with complete new, real attractive attire with a double barrel guitar, put the audience on their toes. As he sings the title song the crowd was on its feet. Credit goes to Amitabh-ji, who settled into the mold quite comfortably. With a cowboy hat attached with feathers and a long overcoat, the actor once again proved that he could turn the clock back. The film then starts with a familiar note. The hero, Abhishek meets with Priety a Pakistani-living-in-London, in a busy London station. As they are forced to wait for their respective guest, they talked about their respective fiancées. But with the passing moments they drawn closer to each other and find themselves in love. Though they realize it much later and the film after this is all about how they confess their love to each other.

The film has nothing in particular and Shad Ali seems to have effortlessly picked the story from here and there and tried to repackage it. The movie has a same age-old story of love affairs. The director has tried to have some lighter moments, but that too goes over the head most times. Bobby Deol in his cool leather jackets and curly long hair discovered not only cool looks but also his acting was cool. Lara looks superb in her role and looks extremely stunning. The only good part of the film is its rhythmic songs, which is the main factor to draw the crowds to the theaters. Every song was good in its own way and deserves hundred out of hundred. Shankar-Ehsan-Loy undoubtedly has given a wonderful foot thumping music. There's something particular about the choreography which adds to the charm of the songs. Whether the title song or to say single shot on the eiffel tower or the dance competition one, all of these were just too good to resist. There's nothing in the story line to 'Jhoom', it is the music instead what makes your heart beat with some rhythm. |
