 'Kaafila' is based on a never explored story line. The entire script is about illegal immigrants. 'Kaafila' is a story about refugees traveling illegally to the United Kingdom. However, as it often happens, circumstances are distorted and they find themselves hiding in Eastern Europe. During these tumultuous six months, they discover each other and a bond of friendship is woven. Finally, they continue their journey through the jungles of Russia and then via sea, where they come across hundreds of more people just like them. The movie is about the struggle to escape from reality and a search to find greener pastures. |

 The storyline travels around the globe encompassing India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Russia and Eastern Europe. Sunny Deol (Sameer) plays a role of an ISI agent from Pakistan posted in the mountainous regions of the Afghanistan and Pakistan borders. He plays the pivotal role in keeping the group together despite different cultures and religions. The climax of the movie unravels on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border where Sameer fights gallantly to save the immigrants.

 The movie moves ahead with the entire group of refugees getting into the trap of ruthless Russian mafia and become a target of Afghanistan militancy. The group begins to believe that Sameer has come as their messiah and he is the only one who can lead them to their goal. But as the movie progresses doubts are raised over Sameer's real intentions. The movie falls far short of expectations. The only one good thing about the movie is the intention of making a movie about illegal immigrants, a problem that has plagued countries for centuries, and international terrorism, which is an issue of concern for most of the countries. Sukhwinder has composed the music of the movie and the lyrics are by Babu Singh Maan. The movie also stars popular Pakistani actress Sana Nawaz and Mona Lisa who share the lead role along with Sunny Deol. The Director Ammtoje Mann himself portrays a character in the movie.
The music gives the audience some respite with the inclusion of songs like, "Sandese Aya" and "Kabhi Sapne Bhi", though even these songs are not chart buster material. 'Kaafila' may have been inspired by the Malta boat tragedy, which claimed the lives of nearly 300 people most of them being Indians. 'Kaafila' has been made with a noble intention but has been let down by the writing and length.
