After a string of box office flops like Aaja Nach Le, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom followed by Ta Ra Rum Pum, the Yash Raj Films makes a comeback on the silver screen with a wholesome family flick. The trio of Kunal, Rani and Saif has been successful in creating a lot of magic once again after the 2004 blockbuster Hum Tum. “Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic” is a romantic-comedy film for families and kids with an ordinary storyline. This simple film has many enjoyable and a few magical moments. With stars like Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukherjee, the film so far has been successful in creating magic for the banner and its audience.

Based loosely on a Hollywood flick, “Nanny McPhee”, this is a story of a successful businessman, Ranbeer Talwar (Saif), a loner, who ends up killing a couple in a road accident. However, the court gives throws a twist and instead of awarding a prison sentence, the court gives an unusual verdict. Ranbeer has to be the legal guardian to the four little children of the deceased couple. And if Ranbeer fails to take care of the kids, he will be sent to custody with a non-bail able prison sentence.

The movie revolves around the lives of four children, forced to live with a man they hate. To better their lives the kids appeal to God to find a way out. The good God, played by an all dressed in white Rishi Kapoor surrounded by a group of female angels, listens to their prayers and sends his favourite fairy Geeta (Rani Mukherjee) to the world of humans to unite Ranbeer and the four kids. And down she comes, cycling on a rainbow. Herefrom the roller coaster ride of fun, emotions, magic and love begins.

Saif Ali Khan plays his part perfectly. Rani is likeable and adds liveliness to every scene. The chemistry between Saif and Rani is flawless. The four kids (Akshat Chopra, Shreya Sharma, Rachit Sidana and Ayushi Berman) have performed brilliantly. The Sardar kid (Iqbal) wins you over with his humour. Rishi Kapoor is good but doesn't have much to do in the film. And don't to forget Amisha Patel, who looks pretty and plays the Bimbo part perfectly in the film.

Besides the good performances, Sudeep Chatterjee's cinematography simply stands out. Special effects are very fine. The movie has several cartoons, like in Taare Zameen Par. The shots of Geeta cycling down a rainbow and floating on water are picturised perfectly. The Music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy is a mixed bag. The first song screened in the movie, ‘Pyar Ke Liye’ written by Prasoon Joshi is pleasant to hear. The other song “Nihal Ho Gayi” has become the most popular song of the movie. “Bulbula” is a song for kids which is superbly picturised. “Lazy Lamhe” is a song full of masti and Amisha have provided a lot of magic. Sound designing by Dileep Subramanium is excellent.

Though there is nothing new in the film but I assure that you and your family will have a smile while leaving the theatre.
