New Delhi: From a remote corner of the world to the mainstream bollywood, it has been quite a journey for Zubeen Garg, the man who has earned his niche in the bollywood music fraternity with songs like Ya Ali.(Gangster), Jane Kya hoga rama.(Kaante), or mere watan.(Fiza). He is a singer-composer-actor-director all packed in to one. Although he tasted success recently, he is not a new kid in the town. He had his days of struggle and initially had given his voice in many remix albums. Headlinesindia had a chance of doing an interview of him. The excerpt follows: |

How did music happen to you? |
| Zubeen Garg: I have been into music since childhood. My mother was a good singer and I consider her to be my mentor. The greatest turning point of my life was when I received a gold medal as vocalist at a youth festival in 1992. It was then that I released my first album - Anamika, which became an instant hit in North-East. I have sung and composed music in many films in many languages since then . |
From one of the remotest part of India to Bollywood, it must have been a long journey? |
| Zubeen Garg: Well, it all happened naturally. After working for 12 years in Assam I felt the urge to move to Mumbai basically for national focus and bigger work. |
Who has been your role model, your inspiration apart from family? |
| Zubeen Garg: I love Napoleon, Sting and Kishoreda is my favourite. I have also been an ardent lover of S D Burman. |
What sort of music appeals to you more? |
| Zubeen Garg: I like all forms of music, whether it is folk, Indian classical, commercial music, or pop or western but I'm more inclined towards celtic music. |
What do you think about the present scenario of the music industry in Northeast and India as a whole? |
| Zubeen Garg: In northeast music is huge and versatile. But Bollywood is a bit monotonous but now there are a lot of changes happening in Bollywood. So, I would say, as a whole Indian music is great. It is both simple and complex. |

What is your take on Himesh's school of music? |
| Zubeen Garg: Hey, he is a great guy. I sang three nice songs for him. He is fast and I like some of his compositions. He is a good music director. |
What are your future projects? |
| Zubeen Garg: There are a lot of projects in the pipeline. I'm doing 5 to 6 albums,writing film scripts and singing for many films. I want to work like a maniac. |
You are an actor-director too, so would you like to do hindi films if given a chance? |
| Zubeen Garg: I'm waiting to shoot my first hindi film 'chakra' in 2007. The script is done. |
What is your style statement? |
| Zubeen Garg: I like everything simple and colourful. |
What is your success mantra? |
| Zubeen Garg: Work is god for me and I just want to work, work and work. |
One thing that no body knows about you? |
| Zubeen Garg: I'm almost blind without my lenses. |
What is that one wish that you want to fulfill? |
| Zubeen Garg: Well, I have a dream to go for the Grammy. I would also like to work for Hollywood. |
Do you repent about anything in life-things that you think you should have done differently? |
| Zubeen Garg: No, Whatever I have done in my life, I have done with full conviction and I take life naturally as it comes. I have never worked for money. |
