Irfan Khan
The man who has won the hearts of his countrymen through his dynamic acting and indomitable screen presence, Irfan Khan is undeniably an outstanding actor who does everything with a panache. Born in the year1964 in the city of Jaipur Irfan Khan has completed his graduation and got a fellowship in the National School of Drama in Delhi, India. He is married to Sutapa Sikdar who too is a graduate from the National School of Drama and is an author by profession.
Irfan Khan has ruled the stage since his college days. A passionate actor he has always been successful in breathing life into the characters. He believes in getting into the skin of a character he is supposed to play and improvises on the set to make it look real. After moving to Mumbai in the year 1987, Irfan Khan became a common face in the Indian television soaps and historical series. Starting from 'Chandrakanta' to 'Darr' he has played numerous roles in the Indian soaps and serials. It was Mira Nair who recognized his talent and introduced him to the world of cinema. His debuted in Mira Nair's 'Salaam Bombay' in which his role was edited but his effort didn't go unnoticed. He appeared in the film 'Ek Doctor Ki Maut' in the year 1991 in which his performance was hugely applauded by the film critics and the audience. Since then he has acted in several films which have helped him strengthen his acting talent.
It was 'The Warrior' which brought him to the mainstream films. Directed by the London based film maker Asif Kapadia, the film was widely acclaimed in the international film festivals. His performance in the film created quite an upheaval and earned him a prominent space in the Mumbai film industry. 'Rog' was his first film where he played the lead role. He played various roles thereafter sometimes as a possessive lover or as an underworld mafia. His passion for acting and the aggressiveness with which he deals with the roles can be explicitly seen on screen. The year 2003 saw him in the lead role of the adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth which was named 'Maqbool' directed by Vishal Bharadwaj. His outstanding performance in the film set him apart from all the existing actors in the industry. The following films 'Metro' and 'The Namesake' added extra feathers to his hat. He has also acted in an international film named 'A Mighty Heart'. There are several other films which have proved his talent repeatedly. Some of them are Dhund, Chocolate, Ghaath, Supari, Aksar, Footpath, Charas, Vaade Iraade, Kasoor, Chehraa, Aan, Haasil and many more.
Irfan Pathan has won several awards and accolades for his contribution to the Indian Cinema. He has received 'Filmfare Award' for the 'Best Actor in a Villainous Role' in the film 'Haasil', nominated for 'Screen Weekly Awards' for 'Best Performance in a Negative Role' in 'Maqbool' and he was nominated by the 'Zee Cine Awards' for 'Best Performance in a Villainous Role' in 'Maqbool'.
