Rahul Gandhi The young leader
With young heart and active brain, Rahul Gandhi has created a mark for himself in the Indian politics. By the virtue of being the son of erstwhile Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi and the incumbent president of the Indian National Congress (I ), Sonia Gandhi, he has been brought up in a family where politics reigns the lives of its members. Being the grandson of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru, politics runs through his veins.
Rahul Gandhi was born in 1970. He finished his schooling from Modern School, New Delhi and graduated in History from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi. Later on he went ahead to complete his Bachelors in Economics from Harvard University. After finishing his studies he worked as a financial consultant in London. Rahul kept away from politics till his induction in Indian politics in 2004, when he was elected for Lok Sabha from his father's traditional constituency Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.

He represents the Indian youth. The support which he derived during election campaigns symbolised a whiff of fresh air with lots of promises and enthusiasm. His victory was celebrated all over, especially by the youth of the country who saw hopes in their young representative. Rahul Gandhi has continued with his family political tradition and has become the fifth generation of the Nehru family to be in politics. Rahul exuberates confidence about himself; about his promise to bring change and equality in the society; when he says, “You know that when my family decides to do anything, it does it. Be it the freedom struggle, the division of Pakistan or taking India to the 21st century”. |

A shadow of his father he has inherited all the qualities of the first family of the country and follows the ideologies of his father. He says, "There is a work that my father had started, a dream he had dreamt. I come to you today saying…allow me to turn that dream into reality," while addressing people of his constituency- Amethi, during his election campaign. A young representative of the Indian politics, he seems to have a clear notion of the problems in the country. He airs his views very clearly when he says, "The thought comes to my mind that a lot of work needs to be done. In India the number of poor is huge. And as a young Indian, it annoys me that we refuse to focus on the real issues and do so only on non-issues. By doing this we distract and slow ourselves down.” It seems Rahul Gandhi is all set up to contribute his best to the development of the country and his fellow country men.
