The man who can make people dance to his tunes, playback singer Zubeen Garg has been ruling the music industry since his smashing hit 'Ya Ali' in Gangster. He has been in the industry since a long time back and has worked as a playback singer in some of the films like 'Fiza' and 'Kaante'. He can play many musical instruments that include mandolin, keyboard, dotara, dhols and other percussion instruments. He has come a long way to establish himself as one of the most sought after playback singers of the country.
Early Genesis Zubeen Garg, also known by the name of Ziban Barthakur was born in the year 1972 in the state of Assam. Hailing from a family that has a rich cultural background, Zubeen has grown up in a musical atmosphere. His father Mohini. M. Borthakur was a magistrate and his mother Mrs. Ily Borthakur was a classical dancer, singer and actor. It was his mother from whom Zubeen took the initial training in music and got the inspiration to pursue his interest for performing arts. Zubeen along with his sisters has acquired the artistic bent of mind from his mother.
He finished his school in Assam and was admitted in the B. College in Jorhat from where he shifted to B. Barooah College. Zubeen learnt 'tabla' from Guru Robin Banarjee and Assamese folk song from Guru Romoni Rai . If asked about the turning point in his life, he would definitely speak of the day on which he won a gold medal for his excellent western solo performance in the Youth Festival that took place in the year 1992. He is happily married and lives in a flat in Mumbai.
The year 1992 brought in tremendous success for Zubeen Garg as it was the year he released his first album 'Anamica' which was a huge success in the north east region of the country. Since then he became a regular face in the industry and composed music for over 40 Assamese films and several Hindi and Bengali films. Besides Assamese, Hindi and Bengali, he has sung in many other languages that include Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Oriya, Nepali and Marathi. Some of the major films in which he worked as a playback singer are Gangster, Pyaar ke side effect, Good boy bad boy, Kya love story hai,Victoria no.203, The train, Raqib and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom.
