.jpg) Autumn and Summer (September to May).
Inhale fragrant pine scents as you trek through winding mountain trails; pick wild forget-me-nots, dahlias and roses as you experience Shillong - a westernized hill station that happens to be the capital city of Meghalaya.
Set at an altitude of 4, 908 feet above the sea level, angelic green Shillong got its name from the local tribal deity Leishyllong, who supposedly resides on the Shillong Peak - the highest point in Shillong, located at a height of 1, 965 meters above the sea level. According to popular legend Leishyllong sits at the highest point of this dense green Eastern Himalayan paradise and guards the sun washed city below from ill luck and unwanted invaders. Enjoy bustling city life amidst exotic natural greens. Dotted with some of the most elite missionary schools in the country, Shillong exhibits an interesting cultural fusion. See children attired in smart grey - red uniforms, watch local women flaunting their colorful headgears and vibrant wraps tied fashionably over their shoulders and observe tribal peddlers selling spiced betel leaves, betel nuts etc., while busily chewing some on their own. Mingle with local tribals (Khasi's) and find out their enchanting hill secrets while you find your way around this exotic North East India hill station with motorable roads and state-of-the-art offices of the Geological Survey of India, Headquarters of the Indian Air Force Eastern Air Command, Headquarters of the Assam Rifles and the North Eastern Hill Council. Besides the local Khasi Population, there is a considerable Bengali, Nepali, Marwari and Assamese community presence in picture pretty Shillong.
Feel captivated at whitewashed Church spires peeping through dense pine and orange trees while you stop by at a local stall to gorge on mouthwatering steamed momos that seem to have a magical effect on your taste buds. Experience mystic green mountain glory that gives you the distinct feeling of having been set in the midst of the breathtaking Scottish Highlands in England on a Shillong tour.

| History of Ladakh: |
| Shillong owes its birth to initiatives taken by the then ruling colonial government in India. Two massive plots in the verdant Khasi Hills (an inseparable part of the exotic Eastern Himalayas) were secured from the local ruling tribes of Mylliem through coercive political manipulation and this area saw the emergence of an enchanting hill station - Shillong.
Over the years Shillong began to expand beyond the 'British defined' Shillong boundaries as Indians and Europeans bought land and constructed enchanting hill homes that are nothing but a visual delight.
You'll feel the distinct English charm as you walk through mountain roads and negotiate tortuous hill tracts. Be charmed at the typical English bungalows with colorful sloping tiles, varnished wood floors and picture pretty chimneys, poised stately on bamboo stilts.
