| According to the popular mythological legend it is the place where Lord Shiva descended in the form of Bhima to slay the notorious demon Tripurasura. It is believed that the sweat that dripped from his body gave birth to the Bhima River at the place.
Some people say that the temple was built by Nana Phadnis partially and rest of the construction was carried on by his wife after his death.

Bhimashankar temple: this temple is famous all over the country for its architectural brilliance that resembles the Nagara style. Bhima River: it is a river located beside the Bhimashankar temple. According to the popular belief the river originated out of the sweat of Lord Bhima. Visited by hundreds of pilgrims all over the year, the water of the river is believed to wash off all sins.
Shani temple: it is a temple dedicated to Lord Shani located inside the Bhimashankar temple. Adorned by a large Portuguese bell, the place is worth a visit for its architecture.
Mokshakund thirtha: dedicated to Rishi Kaushika, it is a temple that is located at the back of the Bhimashankar temple.
Kamalaja: it is temple that is dedicated to Goddess Kamaljala, an incarnation of Goddess Parvati. It is believed that it was Kamaljala who helped Lord Shiva to win the battle against the demon Tripuraasura.
