| History of Pushkar: |
| According to the legend, Samba, Lord Krisha's son was cursed with leprosy by his father for entering into the bathing ghat of Krishna's wives. To come out of the curse, Samba penanced at the seashore and worshiped the Sun God. Satisfied with his devotion, the Sun God relieved him of his disease and he was cured. It is said that Konark is the place where Samba performed his penance and built a temple dedicated to the Sun God at the spot of his penitence.
According to some historians, the Sun temple at Konark was constructed by Narashimha Deva as a symbol of his victory over the invaders.
