 Mathura is believed to be the birthplace of the Hindu mythological god Krishna. The place is known for numerous anecdotes relating the childhood of Lord Krishna. The childhood deeds of Lord Krishna in the city of Mathura are explicitly stated in the Indian epic Mahabharata. Later on during the Mauryan regime several Buddhist monuments and architecture emerged under the supervision of King Asoka. The city is famous for its historical buildings that exemplify the architecture of the Mauryan dynasty, which explicitly reflect the denotative influence of Buddhism. |
