RISA Abhijeet Khanna
A Design graduate of NIFT, New Delhi, Abhijeet started his career working as a design assistant to Manish Arora.A gold medalist from his batch & bagging the award for ‘THE BEST DESIGN COLLECTION’ for his graduating collection, Abhijeet also represented Indian Contemporary Design at a prestigious store in Amsterdam ‘BIJENKORF’ in 2003, where he showcased his collection.Abhijeet launched the label ‘RISA by ABHIJEET KHANNA’ in December 2006. His first collection SS-08 under this label is already selected by a coveted jury at LFW and will be showcased there in September this year.
Varun Sardana
Varun Sardana an alumini of N.I.F.T (Delhi) 2003 launched his label in 2004 when he won the “Bijenkorf Fashion Design Award” held in Amsterdam which led him to design a line for Bijenkorf for spring/summer’04. He has been designing for the past three years with a recognisable presence in the domestic market. Varun has also designed costumes for theatre and film as well as hosted a fashion related show on a national news channel.
Gauri Bajoria
Gauri bajoria, 26, is a young aspiring womens wear designer with a degree in art and design from London College of Fashion. She has also assisted Tata Naka during London Fashion Week. Her clothes are young, hip and funky depicting a mix of both Indian and Western. The colour palette has lots of bright and bold colours. Her strength lies in textures, prints and surface ornamentation. Currently besides retailing from her studio at Kolkatta, her clothes are also available at Kimaya, Zoya, 85Lansdowne (Kolkatta), Ose(Delhi). The spring summer (08) collection is a combination of innovation and nostalgia. The mood reflected is sombre and opulent, unfolding a sleek, sophisticated and fashionable collection.
Prriya & Chintans
Prriya and Chintan graduated from Sydenham in Commerce and pursued Fashion Design in India and the U.S. respectively. Prriya went to P.V. Polytechnic (SNDT) & worked with Sheetal design studio. Excelling in her school, she was awarded student of the year, and a special award for her graduating collection. Subsequently, she also landed the Femina Best Young Designers’ Award. As for Chintan, he studied at Parsons School of Design in New York and worked for Calvin Klein to get a feel for the ready-to-wear market. To do the same for the Couture, he joined Randy Rahm.They launched their label “Prriya & Chintan Couture and Jewelry” in 2003 and have been operating from their studio ever since. They recently opened their flagship store in Mumbai where they retail Diamond Jewelry and an entire range of garments for men and women.and have opened their second store at Atlanta. They also retail at Fuel(Mumbai), Elahe(Hyderabad) , Ffolio(Bangalore), Aza(Delhi), Shehnai(New York), Piran(New York), Sahil(Chicago) and at Madhu Pallo(Hongkong).Merging heritage and innovation to enhance Indian Handicrafts and endeavoring to blend together tradition and youth, they have made an attempt to create garments that are modern but which strongly speak of their roots – India. The diversity in their education brings to life a beautiful mix, which is reflected in the styling. Prriya’s knowledge and experience in embroideries and Chintan’s strong knowledge of cuts, silhouettes and styling helps them create garments which are contemporary in style and traditional in embellishment. Their forte is bridal couture and they have recently launched a Bridge and Ready-to-wear collection. Their collection for the Fashion Week is a combination of crafts, fabrics and raw materials from different parts of the country to create designs never seen before. Plain fabrics are textured and printed to form flowy skirts with corsets or shirts. The embellishments are inspired from Indian motifs and the base colours are shades of blacks, whites and browns with colored embellishments of various shades.Prriya and Chintans is closely working with Re-wrap, a not-for-profit enterprise. Re-wrap assists women’s Self Help Groups in India by providing them with innovative designs and a market for their products. Their objective is to encourage skilled artisans to preserve their techniques whilst modernizing their products and to create a direct and sustainable income source for them. Rural artisans as well as socially and physically disadvantaged women from slums trained in a range of skills work within these groups. Their skills include sewing, fine hand and machine embroidery, appliqué, ribbon and patchwork, hand block and screen-printing.
Drashta by Drashta Sarvaiya
Drashta Sarvaiya graduated from NIFT Gandhinagar with an award- most creative student of the year. drashta – the label as unique as its name was launched in 2005. Her love for colours truly reflects in her creations. Her fine eye for detailing and a sense of quirk gives the label her very own signature style.drashta woman is free spirited sets her own definition of beauty. For her feeling beautiful is as important as looking beautiful. Drashta retails from stores across the country as well as in Kuwait.
Elisha W
Elisha Wadhwani graduated from the London College Of Fashion majoring in manufacture and design and has worked with European designers like Betty Jackson. With a flair for designing and the educational expertise she launched her label “Elisha W “ in 2002, which is being stocked by top-notch fashion houses around the country. In tune with the international trends, her influences come from myriad of cultures around the world. “ Viva de Glam” Elisha W’s Spring/Summer 08 collection spells class. Converting the ramp into the red carpet she presents a vivaciously glamorous and dreamy collection.Sillouettes of the collection are designed to bring out the diva in a woman with unconventional embellishments and design elements. Make way for the luxury prêt princess.
ZEAL by Shubhra
A design graduate from the premiere institute NIFT, gradually making my mark in the world of fashion. Being FEMINA design contest winner and a finalist in wow, Montana design contest, came a long way believing in a philosophy of “creativity with a cause”, my work has always been innovative at its best with a greater underlying meaning. Like 60's, my collection creates a simple, funky and carefree look that in itself talks of a unique style statement.
Affascinare by Meher Mirchandani and Riddhima Whabi
Affascinare, the first designer label of Dubai had received exceptional accolades for their debutant collection in 2002; maintaining a balance between geometric and organic designs by creating a dramatic effect through the interplay of cord and embellishments. Meher Mirchandani and Riddhima Whabi – the principal designers behind this label are known for their flair of combining colors and textures of various fabrics. Art has been their main source of inspiration – Kandinsky ‘On White’ being the theme behind their SS08 collection.
Prashant Verma
Prashant Verma has been trained at Alexander McQueen, Philip Treacy, John Galliano, and Christian Dior. He graduated from NIFT in 2005. In 2006, he launched his eponymous label, PRASHANT*. Focusing on women's evening wear, combining signature digital prints, old school embroideries, sculptural constructions, knitwear and leathers - the collections uphold an aesthetic of visual severity, opulence, gloss and strength. Combining his respect for classicism and academic splendor, with a bold and fearless approach to design, Prashant's work focuses on his greatest strength - this infinite aspiration.
Ashish, Viral and Vikrant for Virtues
Viral graduated from NIFT, Gandhinagar in 1999 after an internship at the House of Dior, Paris and joined her hands with husband Ashish, an MBA from Australia. Vikrant Mehta, a qualified designer from Delhi joined the team in 2005 and added more flavour to Virtues, a brand with which they retail their garment through select stores across the country and abroad.Their designs have a strong element of India and Indian Heritage and specialize in Indian, western and fusion clothing for men and women.
