8 September: 'The Grammar of Seeing', the first collection of Day four at WIFW from Varun Sardana and "Green is the new black of fashion" by Shubhra Chaudhary kicked off with brand new directions and tendencies to look forward at Spring/Summer 2008. Another debut designer took inspiration from a painter, Varun got inspired from the philosophy of Austrian painter and architect Hundertwasser. The collection gave a whole new dimension to silhouettes, embellishments that spelt alternate looks and forward thinking vision to the future, sequins placement and decoration on fabrics resembled a worn out dilapidated micro chip of a computer or a decomposed graph paper. Whereas, Shubhra gave a clear message to promote environment friendly clothing. The collection MISTY NUANCES for her label ZEAL spoke about how careful we should treat the unique natural resources. It came out through the color scheme of innocent white, washed out blues, pale pinks and khakis as well as faded prints. The fabrics used added to the natural impression made it look crushed and crinkled. The Tie& Dye techniques, blotchy effects and patching added to the impression of authenticity and uniqueness.
Varun said, "My inspiration was drawn from architecture and was evident on patterns and prints of little squares and line with dots as an all over print pattern on fabrics. Volume is given through geometric and graphic alignment of fabrics at certain areas of the human bodyso that it clearly defines the body line." On adding to it Sardana said, "The colours which I have used are mint greens, muted yellows and organic ecru's with a dash of bright red and have worked upon with sequins of pants to make it catchy"
And shubhra explained by saying, "I have tried to give a sporty look to my designs, ombre –over- dyed prints and Madras checks. A ballooning camouflage print skirt with patch pocket are made to represent "battledress" for the young environmentalist with embroideries on it."
The entire collection by shubhra was young and sporty with elements like, patch pockets, straps, suspenders, denim vests. Puff sleeves and tiered skirts with trimmed hems added a playful aspect.
